### SEP × Vawlt Technology Alliance

# Sovereign by design. Backup that stays in Europe.

A **German backup engine** and a **Portuguese multi-cloud storage layer**: one European stack for resilient, **audit-ready** data protection that never leaves EU jurisdiction.

European companies, one integrated stack

### **0**

### **4+**

### **S3**

## Compliance, sovereignty and resilience have become one decision

Ransomware, audits, outages and cloud dependency have turned data protection into a board-level question. Answering it takes a stack that stays recoverable and stays European.

### Compliance is now a buying criterion

NIS-2, GDPR and the EU Data Act put data residency, immutable retention and provable recovery at the centre of every regulated deal.

### Recovery has to survive stress

Immutable backups also have to stay available when a cloud, region or provider fails, so that the data still comes back. Distribution across several providers makes that possible.

### Sovereignty is a hard requirement

A German backup layer and a Portuguese multi-cloud layer keep software and data under European control, outside the reach of US extraterritorial law.

## Two European layers in one sovereign stack

SEP sesam is the backup application, and Vawlt is the storage destination. The two complement each other and connect through a standard S3 interface, with no custom integration to build.

### SEP sesam: backup and recovery

- Backup, restore, policies and scheduling
- Si3-NG-S3 deduplicated data store
- Immutability via S3 Object Lock
- VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, SAP, M365
- Developed & supported in Germany

### Vawlt Supercloud: multi-cloud storage

- Zero-knowledge, client-side encryption
- Data distributed across independent EU clouds
- Protection against single-provider lock-in and single points of failure
- Cloud or on-premises placement, one control plane

## A growing European cloud ecosystem

Vawlt distributes each backup across independent, EU-native providers. Customers choose the clouds; Vawlt keeps the data resilient, encrypted and portable across them. Every provider on the list is European, and no US-headquartered hyperscaler sits on the sovereign data path.

## Five steps to set it up

Existing SEP sesam customers add Vawlt to their current deployment, and existing jobs keep running.

### Create a Vawlt volume

Choose the European clouds across which your backup data is distributed.

### Enable the S3 interface

Vawlt issues an endpoint URL together with access and secret keys.

### Add the data store

In SEP sesam, create a new Si3-NG data store that points to the Vawlt endpoint.

### Turn on Object Lock

Enable S3 Object Lock and set the retention period for immutable backups.

### Run your backup jobs

Your existing backup tasks now write to the immutable multi-cloud target.

##### Launch Offer

## Prove it in your own environment.

##### For approved projects, run the full SEP × Vawlt stack free for 90 days. Back up with SEP sesam, land it immutably across European clouds with Vawlt, and validate recovery under real conditions.

## How the alliance works

Do we need to replace our backup setup?

No. SEP sesam runs as it does today and simply adds Vawlt as a new S3 target. Existing jobs and workflows stay the same.

What makes this “sovereign”?

Both companies are European, SEP in Germany and Vawlt in Portugal, and data is distributed only across EU-native clouds, outside US legal reach.

Is the integration custom work?

No. Vawlt exposes a standard S3 endpoint with Object Lock. SEP sesam consumes it natively, without a connector or an agent on the Vawlt side.

What if one cloud goes down?

Data is distributed and encrypted across several independent providers, so backups stay recoverable even if one cloud is lost or unavailable.

Who do we buy it through?

Through both companies’ existing European distribution and reseller networks. Talk to your partner or reach either company directly.

Which workloads are covered?

SEP sesam protects VMware, Proxmox, Hyper-V, Nutanix, SAP HANA, Oracle, MS SQL and more, all landing on sovereign Vawlt storage.
